Herman Bosshard was born 7 June 1846 in Turbenthal, Zurich, Switzerland. He was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in July of 1860, just prior to coming to America. He with his sisters, Paulina and Susette Bosshard came with the Swiss Company. He would have been just 15 years old at the time. He married Jane Garner and not much else is known of him.
Pauline Bosshard was born 12 October 1842 in Turbenthal, Zurich, Switzerland. She was a sister to Susette Bosshard who married John George Hafen, a long-time Bishop of Santa Clara and to Herman. She came with the original settlers in 1861 and would have been 19 years old at the time. From Susette Bosshard Hafen’s history we learn that these three came with the Jabez Woodward group. He had been their mission president. Their mother had joined the church early and eventually all joined the Church. The three children along with John G. Hafen came to Utah and on to Santa Clara together. The rest of the family came in 1865. This included the parents and children: John, Jacob Mina and Hermina. Soon after their arrival the father of the family died and the family suffered real privations and hardships during the enduing years. They were not farm people by training or experience and to obtain a living from the stubborn virgin soil was a most discouraging undertaking. The future looked anything but rosy to these middle class merchant foreigners. Soon the boys in the family were searching for a place that would offer them and their families more security in their pursuit for what they thought were more desirable things of life.
When Harmon (Herman) made a trip into the California territory, he became greatly impressed with the beauty and richness of the land, and he foresaw its boundless possibilities and the rich opportunities it afforded.
Adding to the unrest of this family was the practice of polygamy, which was negative to their ideals. They also believed that Joseph Smith Jr. was the rightful heir to the presidency of the Church instead of Brigham Young. This caused a rift in the beliefs of the devout couple, Susette and John, and the rest of the family. In 1870 the mother and all the family except Susette left the Church and went to California. Part of the members stayed with the Josephite church and part reaffiliated themselves with their original church, the Episcopalian.

Ignaz Willi or Ignatz Willie was born 15 April 1837 in Scherzengen, Thurgau, Switzerland to (unsure). He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while in Switzerland and emigrated to Utah. He became acquainted with Barbara Hafen and the two were married 18 October 1861 before going south to Santa Clara. He came with the Swiss Company and arrived in November of 1861. We know very little more other than he died in 1863 and was buried in the Santa Clara Cemetery.
